News story 1: A 5-week-old Bichon puppy has Roto-Rooter to thank tonight for coming to her rescue. The puppy escaped from her litter and crawled down a floor drain into a pipe under her owner's garage. The Murphy family tried all night to get to her out but she was just too far down to reach. Look at her, the poor thing! So they called Roto-Rooter and they were able to find her with a special camera. There's her rescuer, her hero, right there. 2 hours later the puppy, now named Rosie-Rooter, was back with her mom and 9 brothers and sisters. I love a happy ending. News story 2: A family pet found itself in a terrible predicament today, it got stuck in a precarious place. But thanks to a couple of helping hands, a Kernersville woman is reunited with her feline friend. UPN 48's Frank Fraboni has the story. All this was one scared kitty stuck in a storm drain. "Got out yesterday about 6 o'clock and we've been at this ever since the cat got out." Today, the family called Roto-Rooter who went right to work trying to free this wayward feline, but this was no easy fix. "She's kinda scared of me, which is giving me more of a problem than I thought it was gonna be." First, they tried a camera. "She still won't come this way." Then, they brought out the snake. "You're 4 feet away but you're at that bad spot, you're gonna have to force it through." When that didn't work, they tried a second snake. But this little lady wouldn't budge. "We're gonna stay out here until something happens, one way or another we're gonna get the cat." That's when they decided, "if the cat won't come out, we'll just go in." After breaking a hole into the pipe, and some cajoling, Angel was finally free. "Glad to have her back?" "Oh yes, couldn't sleep a wink last night without her." A successful rescue, thanks to Roto-Rooter. "So I've see it done before and we called to make sure what the best way to go about doing it was." And just like their slogan, away goes trouble, down the drain. Frank Fraboni, UPN, 48 News at 10. News story 3: This is the one and only, Eye Witness News. I'm Charmaine Brown, live in Clay County. A kitten stuck for 4 days in a pipe, we have the amazing rescue, right after the break. A big fuss tonight over a very tiny kitty. Zap had been trapped underground beneath the Clay County grocery store since last Friday. Just a few hours ago, a crew from Roto-Rooter rescued the kitten. Channel 4's Charmaine Brown is live in Orange Park with the story, Charmaine. Tom, this is truly a story of if at first you don't succeed, try and try again. Folks have been trying for 4 days to rescue that little kitten they now call Zap and tonight, they were able to do so. The sounds of a kitten, not coming from a tree, but from this pipe. The kitty's trapped inside behind this Orange Park strip mall. It's been here since Friday. 4 days with very little food and very little water. He only had what little bit these folks could get down to him. There's an open pipe, it's not very big but it's in front of the electrical pole and I think he backed up into it and just went sliding down. The kitten got down with ease. Getting back up, not so easy. Folks have been trying everything since they heard the first cries. A twisted towel, no good. Voices, no good. But a smart, quick-thinking hair client, yes, just what this trapped kitten needed. Tonya Mathis called her husband. "He has these cameras and things that can get all kinds of stuff out of pipes." It was Roto-Rooter to the rescue, Bart Mathis has rescued and recovered many precious things. Ferrets, jewelry, but never a cat. But with his fancy equipment, he is not doubting his ability. "We use the camera for sewer lines all the time to identify broken lines or any number of things that could be wrong with them." For about an hour, Roto-Rooter works the camera, the TV, and the saw. And presto, the kitten is rescued. A bit shaken, but alive and well. And tonight, Zap is very very warm. One of the women who fell in love with him here at this strip mall, she took him home and now he is her pet. We're live in Orange Park tonight, I'm Charmaine Brown.
