Outdoor Plumbing Services You Didn't Know You Needed
Water leaks can cause significant damage to your home and can be quite costly to repair. The plumbing experts at Roto-Rooter have offered the following tips when trying to identify a plumbing leak:
A hissing sound
Whether you are in a new or older home, most plumbing will typically make some noise. A hissing sound is one noise in particular that might indicate a bigger issue. Typically, a valve that isn’t closed properly in some part of your plumbing will make a hissing noise. However, if you notice sound coming from your toilet, it is best to perform a quick color test: Put a few drops of food coloring in the toilet tank, watch to see if the color leaks into the bowl – if so, you have a leak.
Mildew, mold or other signs of water damage
Mildew and mold are surefire signs of water damage in your home. Look for dark spots on your ceiling (especially if they seem to be growing), dimpling in wall- paper, warping floors or peeling paint – any of these issues could point to a possible water leak. Since water damage is costly to repair, not to mention hazardous to your health, it is best to address any pipe leaks right away, no matter how small.
An increase in your water bill
Often, the best indicator of a water leak is an increase on your utility bill. The best way to assess a plumbing leak is to look at your main water meter and track the level that you see. Don't use any water during this time. Check the meter again during this time and if it is reflecting usage then you have a leak somewhere.
